ok just tonight i was playing with 4 guys and me and the player across from me had some huge stacks goin. I was dealt 10 8o so i stayed in. i picked up top pair of 1os and checks went around. a rag spade came up which made 2 spades on the table. it checked around to me so i put a minimal bet in. they all folded accept for the large stack across. an 8 of spades came up. he bet descently but i thought he would have checked to me knowing i would of raised or bluffed really big. he went inbetween so i assumed he had a smaller 2 pair or maybe just 10s. i re raised more than twice his bet. he then re raised all in. i was then baffled. i thought for awhiled eventually calling thinking he wad nothing. he turned over an A high flush doing me in.

I think you should've made a bet after the flop to drive out anyone on draws. The other big stack probably would've folded if you bet out. In my opinion, you shouldn't figured he had the flush when he went all-in.

I always have a story to relate. Tonight I flopped top two pair and raised a bet, and getting one caller (and the bettor folded). I was putting him on a straight or a flush draw (2 diamonds on the board). The turn came a 10 of diamonds. I bet out some, and he raised me all-in. I'm thinking that he has made his hand, and beat me. I had 4 outs, and that's not enough for me to call on. I show him my hand and fold, and he said good fold.

Problems:

1. going in with 8To
not a pretty hand

2. checking with just top pair
you want to kick people out so it's very easy to lose with just that

3. putting in a small bet with 2 spades popped on
you want to make the draws pay heavily

3. re-raising after he bet (when 3 spades showed)
he obviously hit the flush. All signs point to him being on a draw. The board clearly showed he hit his draw.

4. calling his all in. you had no reason to.
see above.
His re-raising you back again clearly says he hit his draw. Even if you thought he was bluffing then, you should know by now he's not bluffing. And he could have easily had two pairs or even a pair with a better kicker. You only have an 8!) He could have bluffed and still beat your hand! And even if he only had one spade, another spade could have came on the river.

You put in the minimal bet and he called, that would tell me he is drawing. 3 Spades come up and he goes all-in and you can't figure what he has? im confused....

I understand what you guys might think due to the hand description, but i knew this player very well and believed he was posing the flush draw, thus posing he hit it.He ussually only goes all in to kick people out so assumed he was then, my top 2 pair looked pretty good to me.it wasnt a tourny there wasnt many all in calls.

I think the biggest problem here is the way you played it pre-flop and on the flop. i presume you were on the button when you called with 10-8. In a tournament a hand like that can be big trouble when a 10 hits because you may be beat by a bigger kicker.

But when the 10 hits and no one bets into you ,you have to use the power of your position to knock out as many people as possible. Once you gave everyone a free card you leave the possiblity of flush and stright draws for your opponents who had nothing on the flop. Slowplaying 10's with a weak kicker is probably not the best play in that situation. If you weren't slowplaying (just nervous about the kicker) then you should have had no problem folding when your opponent went all in with 3 to a flush on the board.

The real question is whether you want to risk all of your chips with a two pair. Think about what he coudl have had. If he had ace-10. Then he probably would have bet, raised or checked raised before the river. If he has jack-10 or q-10, then i doubt that anyone would want to go all in with those hands after you had reraised. I dont know the guy as well as you do, but i would have been seriously worried about a flush in that spot.

You let him stay in cheaply on the off chance he hit, and he did. You really must be more aggressive early on in the hand to drive out anyone looking to stay in on the off chance of making something on the turn or the river.

You let him see the cards too cheaply and paid the price. Your play wasn't awful, but you let him in on the hand.
