just curious what limits you should play for your bankroll. if i have $50 and to play in a .10/.25 no limit room where the max you can bring to a table is $25, is this a good limit? the max being half of what i have. this is online by the way.

That's way too much of your bankroll at stake at one time. It's nl, so you could lose half of your bankroll in any one hand. This is bad for many reasons, the most obvious being that your playing with scared money. I would try micro limit, because there arent as many swings.

I have lost $50 at .10/.25 NL in a couple of days. Never in a single session. My biggest single session loss at .10/.25 was $37, but I have lost around $70 over a three day period. You need at least $250, but personally I would feel more comfortable with at least $400, and as much as $750. I have about $1000 between two sites and I play mostly .10/.25 and .25/.50 at Paradise and .05/.10 and .10/.25 at Poker Stars. I'm usually multi-tabling too, so that increases the amount of money I have at risk. If I'm playing 3 NL$25 tables at once, I really have $75 at risk.

If you have $50 about the only game you can really afford is .01/.02 NL. When I started at PS I started with $50. The .01/.02 NL game there has a $5 max buy-in and $50 was plenty for me. I turned it into over $300.

Once I got to $100 I started playing the $5 +.50 2 table SNG's at stars. The payoff is pretty good. First is $36, second is $27, third pays $18, and fourth pays $9. I got lucky and won a few of them and got up to $200 pretty quickly. Then I moved up to .05/.10 and .10/.25. I don't really have the bankroll for .10/.25 at Stars, but I do have the cash available to put more in, plus I play the .10/.25 regularly at Paradise.

I'm a pretty conservative player and I have been playing online for only a little over 8 months. In that time I have managed to turn my initial $110 investment ($60 at Paradise $50 at Stars) into just over $1000.

What I would do is if I was having a good day, or say I won $25 in a $ SNG and my usual game was .01/.02, I would take my SNG winnings and take a shot at the bigger .05/.10 game. I would say that I spent about 2-2 and a half months at each level before moving up. Once I made enough money so that my bankroll was about 10-15 buy-ins for the next highest level, I would start taking a shot at the next highest level with the goal to make the final jump once I had between 20 and 30 times the buy in.

It does take time, but it is possible to start with a small deposit or even freerolls and work your way up through the levels.

do you find that your tournament strategy is different than your cash game or do you generally play the same?

As was already said, you are severely underfunded. Minimum that I would want for a BR for that game is $250 at least 10 buy ins and preferably 20.

Cash game and tourny NL strategy are two verey different animals, I love when the small NL SNG players buy in as they usually don't last very long.
